RUN FOR YOUR LIFE

Thursday, October 20, 2005

So, I have actually been following the training plan. Only missing maybe 3 minor runs since starting which, considering everything going on in our life right now, I think I'm doing pretty good.

The speed work has been fantastic! Am really enjoying the pace work, getting to know my heartrates/breathing rhythms at my goal pace. It seems like, at the moment, for me to run at my goal pace of 4:50/km I have to keep up a heart rate of 184ish.

I actually ran a sub 50 min ten km last night with my speed workouts. I did 5 sets of 2km pace runs. Didn't completely keep pace the whole time but did achieve my goal. Was pretty happy.

J and I have been doing our runs in the evening. It's hard cause it gets cooler now and leaving the warm house isn't always easy, and we sometimes feel tired BUT it lets us sleep in in the mornings and not stress about fitting in a run on my breaks. Overall I think I prefer it and am looking forward to the next time I have a normal job with a nice finishing time (like 5PM instead of 8PM) when I can do the evening runs and not arrive home close to 10:00!

SUMMARY* Am feeling good, strong, confident that I can achieve a sub 50 minute 10km as long as I don't drink too much during the Hallowe'en party the weekend before!!

haha. i'm obviously not running that much.

i am following a 10k training program, albeit loosely.

yesterday i did day three of plan, with the 2km intervals. but being more ambitious than most (and actually not having checked my schedule myself!) i did 5 x 2km instead of 3 x 2km. It went pretty well. I was supposed to hit close to 4:55 a km and managed to maintain it for the first 2 x 2km but (probably because i went way under 4:55 for the first combined with not having eaten well these last few days) i couldn't hold the pace for the last 3 x 2km. but was never more than 30 seconds off per km.

still wearing in my new shoes it feels like. keep getting sore spots on top of blisters. am currently running in Mizuno Wave Rider 8s fitted with elastic laces. it may be the laces. it may be the shoe. it is definitely disheartening.

i'm trying to up my intake of fruit and vegetable servings and lower my intake of dairy (not hard!) and most grains (bit more difficult), barely is still ok as it balances my doshas and doesn't aggravate the cough I've been fighting for too long and the stuffy sinuses from so much dust in and out of the house (it's that season).

today is a rest day. i feel good, not too sore, and would like to run after the exhilaration of yesterday's workout (thanks for giving me the drive and the coffee J!) but don't mind taking it easy today.
