Welcome to my sports log. Quite a different read. Non-athletes need not read on!
Today was my first day after my possibly longest stint of inactivity.
Not that I lead an inactive life by any means but I hadn't 'worked out' in a long time.
I ran an easy (very easy) 30 minutes. 4.5 km. Didn't push it hard. Didn't overdo it. Like I said earlier, exercised some self restraint. There will be time enough to go hard. Not on the first day back.
AND AM I EVER BACK! That felt so good. I'm almost glad I took so long off. I really know how much I love it now. I'm not completely glad that I took so long off because now I've got these funny jiggly bits that weren't there before. And I've got a long way to go before I get back into marathonkitty shape.
But my new gym has all sorts of classes to join and I'll get a free personal assessment, plan and a review with a trainer every eight weeks. I'm going to get a plan designed to streghthen my running muscles, especially my core. And I'd like to improve my stride, improve hamstring flexibility and do more of those As and Bs, which I hate 'cause you look really retarded doing them.
I realised while running that a lot of the reason I haven't been running much lately is that it's been too dark. I like running alone and I don't feel safe running here in the dark. I don't know the area, I don't know how dangerous it could be. I felt really safe in Hiroshima. I miss that. I forget sometimes how much trouble I could unwittingly get myself into!
I haven't really set any goals yet. That's going to be my next big step. I'll have to decide what kind of goals I want to set. Physical goals? Time goals? BF% goals? (<--not really my thing) Race Specific Goals? Workouts/week goals? The latter sounds most appealing to me now but I'll run on it for a week or two before I really make up my mind as to where I want this session to head. Might research some marathons too... A whole year before the next Gold Coast Marathon seems like a long time to wait.
Marathons and Tattoos... addictive in the same way. However, my body has more space for marathons than tattoos, I'm already pretty full up on that front! (though Liz and I are planning for at least one more!)
Sleep after sport... to me, better than sleep after sex.
